 LEGACY #165:

LEGACY #165:

Children Of Bodom & Immortal Legends: New Legacy #165 is dedicated to a band that has left an indelible mark on extreme Metal. Six years after the untimely death of Alexi Laiho, the remaining original members of Children Of Bodom are returning to the stage with a new frontman – with numerous festival appearances already announced for 2027. In an extensive cover story, we explore the history and legacy of this exceptional Finnish band, speak with former members and close associates about the immensely talented yet deeply troubled Alexi, and investigate what the future might hold for Children Of Bodom. We also provide the perfect soundtrack: an exclusive Children Of Bodom tribute CD, featuring numerous bands from around the world putting their own distinctive spin on the Finns' unforgettable classics.
Things are no less uncompromising in our four-page co-cover story on Knife. The German Blackened Speed Metal maniacs deliver an explosive combination of breakneck speed, blackened ferocity and unrestrained energy, proving once again that the underground continues to produce plenty of exciting bands in 2026.
This issue's Soundcheck crown goes to Silvertomb, who emerged from the remnants of the legendary Type O Negative. With their new album, Kenny Hickey and his bandmates achieve an impressive balance between the crushing weight of their musical past and a distinctive identity of their own. In an extensive interview, Hickey speaks with unflinching honesty about his past struggles with alcohol, personal demons and the difficult journey towards reclaiming his life.
Spiritual and philosophical depths are also explored: On “Sagas”, Heilung delve into shamanic healing powers and mental health, while Arckanum return with a new work that sees mastermind Shamaatae immersing himself in chaos-gnostic spirituality. Sixth place in our Soundcheck proves that, beyond the philosophical concepts, the music itself is equally compelling.
Master provide a hefty dose of old-school brutality: Paul Speckmann is every bit as uncompromising on the new album as he is in our interview, offering outspoken views on the state of the world alongside a wealth of bizarre studio anecdotes. Sir Hannes also has plenty of stories to tell, looking back on 40 years of The Idiots in a thoroughly entertaining conversation – not only as a band, but also as a record label and record store.
Finally, Legacy #165 bids farewell to three influential personalities who helped shape their respective scenes over several decades: Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo), Bruno Kramm (Das Ich) and Cronos (Venom). Three extraordinary characters whose musical legacies will endure long after their passing.
